6 Road Tripping Essentials

Road-tripping is such an amazing way to travel! It allows you to see so many things, keep costs down, and cover a lot of ground! The drawback? Hours and hours in the car. It can be boring and draining if you don't do it right.
I recently went on a 5-day road trip, and these were some things that helped me not go crazy in the car. Here are some of my road trip essentials that you might not think about bringing!

1. Snacks on snacks on snacks!
A hungry person is a grumpy person. Grumpy does not make for a fun road trip! It's super important to have snacks with you in the car! You don't want to have to stop at a drive-thru every time you get hungry, and sometimes there isn't anything on the drive for a while. My go-to snacks?
beef jerky
goldfish
dried fruit
Oreos
2. Podcasts and a bangin' playlist
If you're in the car for a long time, you need some entertainment. A top-tier playlist makes things go by faster (Shout out to Noah Kahan for being the BEST,) and sing-alongs are a must! When you need a change, switch over to a podcast! I love podcasts because I love learning! My favourite podcasts?
Tooth and Claw
National Park After Dark
Lore
Crime Junkie
Podcasts are a great way to break up your drive!

3. If you're with more than one car - walkie talkies!
Okay, hear me out... I know we have phones. BUT you never know when you might not have service. Plus, it's just really fun to talk to the other cars on your trip with a walkie-talkie. We got cheap little walkie-talkies for my most recent road trip, and they didn't work SUPER great, but they were fun and made the drive more enjoyable! I'm not saying go out and drop hundreds of dollars on a good set of walkie-talkies, but if you have some laying around, or someone you know would lend them to you, I think you definitely need 'em.

4. Hydration AND caffeine
I am the friend that needs to pee every twenty minutes, and I'm sure it's annoying for the people in my car. However, I will stand by the importance of a beverage that will hydrate you AND a beverage that has caffeine. Here's why: if you don't drink water, you'll get a headache and if you don't have caffeine, you'll get a headache (if you're like me and have a mild caffeine addiction.) Why separate drinks, you ask? It's more fun, and I know you aren't drinking enough water as it is. So do both and stay hydrated and caffeinated.
5. A pillow of some sort
You're going to nap. It's a fact. You might as well be comfy. Use what you've got, but make sure you've got something to help you get a decent power nap in. Sleep is important and it's in limited supply when you're road-tripping.

6. A change of shoes/clothes
If you're doing any hiking on this road trip (which I hope you are!) a game changer was keeping a change of shoes and clothes IN the car where you can access it. You might get wet, sweaty, muddy, rained on, or whatever! Being able to change your shoes the second you feel like it was next level for comfort. Put together a nice little bag filled with the stuff you'll need!
I can't wait for my next road trip, and with these tips, I know I'll be so comfortable! Send me some of your tips and tricks for me to try!

Happy adventuring!
